During the Easter holiday, I visited the White Chapel Gallery which showcased artists like Kadia Attia and Mark Dion. Dion's exhibition was all about the representation of nature and the history of ideas. Unfortunately, a lot of it was closed so I didn't get to see all of of it but I did get to see his thoughts about the world and how we as people (specifically artists) connect to nature.
I also got to check out other artist's work such as Conrad Showscross and Spencer Finch. My favourite is probably the new signs because of the vibrant red neon colour contrasting with the black background. It was fun Photographing it as well because you can see reflections of the letter when you look closer.I also got to check out other artist's work such as Conrad Showscross and Spencer Finch. THE PHOTOGRAPHERS GALLERY
On Friday the 20th of April, I visited the Photographer's gallery. The first floor was about the secret history of Cross Dressers drawn from the photography collector and filmmaker Sebastian Lifshitz. I really enjoyed looking at these images of these random individuals breaking and defying gender conventions at a time when society was very hetero-normative. It's interesting to think about how perspectives have changed on cross dressing over the years but there are still a lot of prejudice around it.
I also enjoyed Batia Suter's exhibition of her work from her book Parallel Encyclopedia #2. I liked that the images were blown up and displayed all around the room, it made me really concentrate and focus on the images and it's details. All most all of the images were black and white but there some images that were in colour which made the exhibition even more interesting.
THE MARION GOODMAN GALLERY
Christian Boltanksi believes that "everybody is totally unique and very important, and at the same time, everybody is so fragile". He presents this through photography and large scale installations. I found this exciting because the entrance of the exhibition was veiled with cloths with just light bulbs to show the way and the rest was very dark which created suspense.
